DawgmanRadio: Saturday's scrimmage set the table nicely for 'Dawgs After Dark'

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - had to find a spot to record while the UCLA-UW Softball game was going on behind them to offer up their thoughts on today's final scrimmage before 'Dawgs After Dark', as well as update UW fans on the players that got drafted today. And as it fortuitously worked out for us, Zach Durfee was taken as the 7th Husky in the 7th round just moments before we were set to wrap up the podcast, so we were able to give our thoughts on that news too. To start, we talked about the general tone of the scrimmage, which went 130 plays according to UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch. We talked about the gulf in class between Demond Williams and the rest of the quarterbacks room. We talked about the running backs that continue to get turns and how that room will invariably change once Jayden Limar and Trey Cooley are cleared to play. We talked about how good it was to see Ohio State transfer Bodpegn Miller get some snaps during the scrimmage and also how some of the lesser-known pass-catchers, like Charlie Crowell, started to get some production. We talked about interceptions by Kayden Greene and freshman safety Gavin Day highlighting the play the defense.  We talked about the battle in the trenches, how it's been a blessing that no one has really gotten injured in there so far this spring, and how the rooms will definitely improve, especially when the DL gets former Mississippi State standout freshman Kai McClendon back. But mostly it was about how the defense is still a ways ahead of the offense, and also how the competition level has continued to rise and rise, leading to more scuffles and how the competition has pressurized things to where there's more breakdowns - like poor snaps, penalties, and the like. Scott offered up a quick recruiting update, as there were a few prospects there today but UW is really gearing up their recruiting efforts to coincide with Dawgs After Dark. And then Zach Durfee was picked by Jacksonville shortly before we closed out the show. DawgmanRadio: Day 11 a precursor for Saturday's big scrimmage

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were at Husky Stadium Thursday to check out Day 11 of Washington's spring football campaign, and it felt a bit like the calm before the storm. You're getting to the part of camp where guys can start to hit a little bit of a wall, especially the younger players, but in this case the shells and shorts practice felt more like a warmup for what UW fans should expect to see Saturday afternoon during their last big scrimmage before Dawgs After Dark, the following Friday. For one thing, it wasn't a very long practice. It went basically two hours as UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch cut things short right before we expected to see another team period to round things out. That may have been because of the ongoing NFL Draft and players and coaches wanting to watch some of their former teammates potentially get drafted. It might also be because Saturday's scrimmage is expected to be a longer one and get want the available players to be as fresh as possible. The Dawgman guys talked about what they did see today, including some two-minute work for the first time all camp, and also who is standing out among the UW running backs, receivers, and tight ends. Who is getting more open; Dezmen Roebuck, or Decker DeGraaf? They also talked about the physical transformation for some of the younger players, like Ansu Sanoe, Ryken Moon, and others, and Scott offered up a quick recruiting update as a number of important recruits are expected to be at Husky Stadium on Saturday. And they had one big visitor in today. To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policyLearn more about your ad choices.
